Well, I am certainly taking a lot of time to myself lately! On Friday afternoon I met some girlfriends poolside here for some margaritas. Then I walked up to the spa for a delicious and much needed facial.
Next weekend I'll be flying out to Mary's house with girlfriend Sylvia. We are meeting up with my ArtChix at The Art Bar in Santa Anna for playtime and later dinner and strolling the streets. As it will be Cinco de Mayo, there will be open houses in the art district. And yes, I will be getting crazy again with Kelly.
I have been busy creating, but I can't share yet...one project is for a friend's book and the other is top secret and can only be revealed when it's 100% complete. Both are collaborations with friends.
I mean, look what I discovered in a pile of stuff....an envelope with some stuff for a friend (that would be you Tammy)
I did a trade with Dawn recently. She sent me those gorgeous shimmery earrings in my favorite green color and I am sending her the pair of jacks earring I made. Me so lucky!!
I am such a crappy photographer!
Kelly and I took a 2 day art class presented by DJ Pettit and Tracy Bautista at The Paper Studio. This is just a small sampling of the papers I created in Tracy's class:
On the first day, girlfriends Angie and Fran came to meet us for lunch. It was quite a crowd! Kelly and myself, Angie and Fran, our dear friend Linda Young (queen of Art Unraveled) and our amazing teachers DJ and Tracy. We were the only people in the restaurant...it took 50 minutes for our food to arrive....I'm wondering if we frightened the staff with all our cackling and guffawing. Perhaps Kelly and Tracy should have danced.
I haven't finished my pieces from DJ's class...they need a little painting to be complete. DJ and Tracy had a gallery showing at the Paper Studio, and I bought this from DJ....it really spoke to me on such a personal level:
Soaring High, mixed media, about 16" x 20". As DJ was showing the class some samples, I was very moved by one of them. When I told her, she gave it to me as a "bonus". What made it even more special was that the while piece on the right was given to DJ by Angie!
Kelly made this beautiful set of jewelry for me, which she presented upon her arrival:
I've worn them almost everyday! I love you Kelly!
This is me with my local peeps from a recent girl's night out....when there are this many girls, you can sure tell who DIDN'T take the photo!! A couple of us are trying to pull off a spa day on Friday with the afternoon spent poolside, having a young man in a speedo bringing us cocktails!....Maybe not a speedo....
I absolutely adore Kelly...what a delight! We laughed, we cried, we drank too much and then we called Mary on the phone! And we probably offended a few people in our classes at the Paper Studio. We were silly and laughed a lot....and loud! Kelly and I also had the good fortune of meeting up with the fabulous Sylvia Luna. Again, more laughing! My darling Mary, who was scheduled to be here as well, had been sick and hospitalized the week before so she was unable to join us. I'm sure my head would have exploded if it had been the 3 of us.

No art to share, so here is a photo of my kid, #45, doing what he loves. He's 12.
My gastric bypass surgery has been pushed to June 25...no big deal.
My mom had a brain scan done last week and it came back clear. Additionally, the nodes that they found on the first scan 2 months ago show no change. This report boosts my spirits and my mom's as well. Yesterday was her first chemo treatment and she feels fine. She'll have it once a week for 3 weeks and then a week off. I hope she tolerates it well. Yippee! Thank you to everyone for lifting us in your hearts and prayers. You have truly sustained me and I am forever grateful!
Yep, it's in the 90's and Al & the boys are already swimming!
First day I had a wonderful class with Beckah Krahula learning about milagros and repousse:
And a class on altering a lunchbox and making a book with Tom and Ramona Ashman. They were amazing teachers, keeping us on task, and Tom would say the same thing 50 times if he had to until everyone understood.
I adore Linda and Opie O'Brien. The are so great together. Right now the bracelet I made in the Tin-tastic class is lost on my desk...I'll post it when it turns up.
My favorite goodies from vendor night. The first is by Pam Garrison, and I also scored some of her wallpaper packs AND some of the darling postcards I hope she sells in her Etsy store.
And from the super talented jewelry artist Amy Hanna, I scored this:
This necklace is a great companion to the bracelet I purchased several months ago:
My parents returned from a vacation in Hawaii to celebrate Easter. They gave me this very cool, beautiful necklace...look at the unusual face bead!
Another wonderful year at ArtFest has come and gone. The Moore's pulled off another amazing event without any hitches. This year was very difficult for me. I have that cloud of grief hanging over me that I just can't shake. I felt kind of "out of sorts". It was incredible being around so many people that were so kind and giving, sharing love and stories with me. And patience....I cried a lot. Thank you to all my friends that made me feel better. A few really helped me by listening and understanding...by doing so, they helped me address my fears. Some of my friendships amazed me by how they have grown in intensity. A few disappointed .... they have changed so much in one year.
Not so many photos...
I finally got to meet so many online friends and renew old friendships, but I only got one photo! I was so happy to meet Katie Kendrick!
The photo on the left is of my darling friend Gina Armfield who I got to pal around with a bit. I really enjoyed her and her funny friends. The photos are taken in the Tintastic class offered by Opie and Linda O'Brien. That's Linda loving on Gina...our table was teacher's pet! Lovely Heather and her friend Sharon were part of our gang. The O'Brien's were some of the best teachers I have ever had...so fun! The only other photos I have are those that I took on the ferry ride with my car mate and friend, Terry.
Special thank you to my girlfriends Amy and Pam. You are so thoughtful and so generous...I am grateful that I had time with you. Amy...you lifted my burden by sharing your story and opening your beautiful heart to me.
More about classes and projects when I finish with final touches!
